Easter Sunday 2010

Image
Easter is the time when we celebrate the Glorious Resurrection of Christ. As we look in the Gospel of Matthew we read, " After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you." So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Sudd...

Holy Saturday 2010

Image
This day is also known as "The Day Christ laid in the tomb", due to the fact that after we read the 14th Station, Christ is buried. And thus on that Saturday we are in a hopeful vigil to see the return of our Lord and King, Jesus Christ. In the Gospels, the final passage we come across is, "Christ was then laid in the tomb, with a large boulder covering its entrance, and Christ laid there for 3 days, until Sunday when rose again." This is what we see/hear of Christ before he Resurrects on Sunday. Little is know about what took place within the tomb of Christ before the Glorious and Triumphant Sunday. In the primitive Church Holy Saturday was known as Great, or Grand, Saturday, Holy Saturday, the Angelic Night, the Vigil of Easter, etc. It is no longer, like Maundy Thursday, a day of joy, but one of joy and sadness intermingled; it is the close of the season of Lent and penance, and the beginning of paschal time, which is one of rejoicing. The night of the vigil of E...

The Chair Of St. Peter

Image
The story of The Chair of Saint Peter started after the Resurrection of Christ. Jesus asked "Peter do you love me?" Peter replied "Yes my lord I do." Christ asked a second time "Peter do you love me?" again peter responded "Yes my lord I do." Christ ask for the third and final time "Peter son of John do you love me?" Peter said for the third time "My lord you know I love you."Jesus said to Peter you are the rock, and upon this Rock, I will build my Church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. To you have I entrusted the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." When Jesus handed the keys of Heaven to Peter, Peter at that time became the First Pope of the Catholic Church.Us as Catholics have Celebrated the Feast of The Chair Of St. Peter since the fourth century. The Chair of St. Peter is still intact in Saint...
