St. Elizabeth of Portugal

Elizabeth was a Spanish princess who was given in marriage to King Denis of Portugal at the age of twelve. She was very beautiful and very lovable. She was also very devout, and went to Mass every day. Elizabeth was a holy wife, but although her husband was fond of her at first, he soon began to cause her great suffering. Though a good ruler, he did not imitate his wife's love of prayer and other virtues. In fact, his sins of impurity gave great scandle to the people. Later, to make matters worse, the King believed a lie told about Elizabeth and one of her pages by another page, who was jealous of his companion. In great anger the King ordered the one he believed guilty, to be sent to a lime-burner. The lime-burner was commanded to throw into his furnace the first page who came. The good page set out obediently, not knowing death was waiting for him. On his way he stopped for Mass, since he had the habit of going daily. St. Paschal Baylon

The son of humble peasants, Martin Baylon and Elizabeth Yubero, St. Paschal was born on May 16, 1540 in Torrehermosa, Aragón (Spain). The second of six children. Pascual called him because he was born on the eve of Pentecost. From 7 to 24 years as a shepherd. Such was his love for the Eucharist that the owner of the herd said the best gift you could give the child was one day enable him to attend weekday Mass. From the field where the pastor could see the steeple of the village church. Every now and then knelt to adore the Blessed Sacrament from afar. One day, while the priest consecrated, other shepherds heard him shout: "There he comes, there it is!". He fell to his knees. He had seen Jesus coming at the time. St.Andrew Avellino

Born in 1521 in Basilicata,Italy. Baptized with the name of Lancillotto. Andrew was a ecclesiastical lawyer. He then left his career of being a lawyer, to become a priest. Andrew was ordained priest at age twenty four. Andrew encountered with the Society of Jesus or the Jesuits.Andrew becam a part of the Theatines. Andrew was assigned to a convent in Naples,Italy that becaome a brothel. When he became a priest a local man threatened to murder Andrew. Andrew traveled all of the nation of Italy, reforming other religious orders. Andrew was giving a mass when he had a heart attack and died during mass. He died Nvember 10, 1608 at age eighty eight. In 1624, only 16 years after his death, he was beatified by Pope Urban VIII, and in 1712 was canonized by Pope Clement XI. His patronages are Naples, Sicily; invoked against sudden death.
