St. Denis of Paris

Bishop of Paris, and martyr. Born in Italy, nothing is definitely known of the time or place, or of his early life. His feast is kept on 9 October. He is usually represented with his head in his hands because, according to the legend, after his execution the corpse rose again and carried the head for some distance. That, however, while still very young he was distinguished for hisvirtuous life, knowledge of sacred things, and firm faith, is proved by the fact that Pope Fabian (236-250) sent him with some other missionary bishops to Gaul on a difficult mission. The Church of Gaul had suffered terribly under the persecution of the Emperor Decius and the new messengers of Faith were to endeavour to restore it to its former flourishing condition. The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist

St. Mark 's Gospel tells follows the death of the great forerunner , John the Baptist : "Herod had sent to prisoner John the Baptist, and had been chained to the prison because of Herodias , his brother Philip 's wife With which Herod had gone to live in free union. For John said to Herod, " You are not allowed to go live with the wife of his brother. " Herodias you had a great hatred for this and wanted to Juan Bautista him killed , but could not because Herod had a deep respect for John and consider him a holy man, and protected him and stayed to hear him speak thoughtfully and fearful, and listened with pleasure . " "But the day came when appropriate, when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet to all the main city . He came to the party and the daughter of Herodias danced the dance she pleased Herod , and promised with an oath : " Ask me what you and I will give , if only half of my kingdom. Saint Venantius

Saint Venantius was according to Christian tradition a 15-year old who was tortured, and martyred by decapitation at Camerino during the persecutions of Decius. Martyred with him were 10 other Christians, including the priest Porphyrius, Venantius' tutor; and Leontius, bishop of Camerino. Before Venantius was killed, he was scourged, burned with flaming torches, hanged upside-down over a fire, had his teeth knocked out and his jaw broken, thrown to the lions, and tossed over a high cliff. His 11th century Acts state additionally that he managed to briefly escape from Camerino and hide at Raiano, where a church was later dedicated to him.

St. Catherine of Alexandria

Catherine was born 282, Alexandria, Egypt. Catherine was was virgin. She was very beautiful. Once the Emperor Maximinus of Rome was taking over Egypt, he saw how beautiful she was. He want her to marry him. He asked her to marry him she refused because, she took her vows of virginity. So he got angry he sent her to be tortured. She was imprisoned and the people who visited her converted when she spoke to them. The emperor was frustrated, so he had tortured on the breaking wheel. Once she touched the wheel the wheel broke it self. Finally she was beheaded. She died on earth but born in the glory of Christ 305, Alexandria, Egypt. She has many patronages here are some of them educators, girls, jurists, knife sharpeners, lawyers,and librarians. She is part of the fourteen holy helpers.
